How did you find your new Pub?
And did any of you stick to tradition and drink in Plaistow/Canning Town/Upton Park?

First thing's first, it was lovely to walk around my old patch Mile End and see it awash with Claret & Blue. Passing the Little Driver and the Bow Bells was great seeing them rammed and the area full of West Ham.

I drank in The Plough on Fish Island which is a 10 minute walk from where my Nan lives. Beer was nice, it was packed, but there zero atmosphere and I didn't suspect anything else from a hipster pub, but it's convenient for my mate, so I suspect I'll meet him there most weeks, but have a few in the Coborn Arms or the Bow Bells beforehand.

Not a great start and it's not a patch if the Vic, but it's also only 5 minutes from the ground.

I managed to get to a few matches since January, at the BG, and each time I started and did most of my drinking at great pub that someone on here mentioned. Thought I'd check it out, as it might make a good pub for the OS. I liked it so much, I went there every time, so it alreadu feels like my new pub.

Then again, just how rammed was the Little Driver? The back garden could hold quite a few, but not industrial measures of football fans. Do you mean there were loads drinking on the street in front of the pub?

Re: How did you find your new Pub?
No they have bouncers at the LD so no drining out the front- plenty of staff and they look well prepared- the was talk of them having a "regulars" section but no sign of that yet- will be interesting whether away fans work out thats the easiest way into the ground- via th DLR there was loads on bournemouth in #theother boozer on sunday.

All in the the LD was busy but not crazy- the girls behind the bar can do more than one thing at once. its gets a thumbs up from us, as yet no real buzz but give it time...

How long was you in there, W4? Looked like it was spilling out when I passed about half two.

Thanks for the info gents. Good on them. Last time I was there, I told the girls things would be a bit different next time I get chance to pop in.

Sad for the pubs around the BG that will now struggle, but pubs like the LD, which may well have struggled themselves had we not moved, will now have a great lifeline.

I did plenty of scouting, even as far as the widows son.

In the event however I haven't got to @secretpub yet as I keep getting forced to drink in Hackney Wick. Had enough of shit craft beer in half pint plastic cups.

Re: How did you find your new Pub?
Regarding away fans, there were a handful of Wolves fans in the LD funnily enough, for the cup match. All very peaceful on that day. Had a little chat with them. They expected to lose but were glad to visit in that historic season. Talked about keeping their tickets as momentoes.

I did wonder how things might go this season and if away fans might fancy using the LD, what with it being at the gateway to the backstreet leading to the SW corner of the ground.

I hope it doesn't end up as a designated away pub.

Re: How did you find your new Pub?
I posted on another thread about the Black Lion. A few of us regulars went in there before the game on Sunday and were hugely disappointed how empty it was. .I've always said that moving pubs was unnecessary and after timing the journey from pub to ground, I was proved right. Took 35 minutes, that's only 15 more than it took to get to UP. Is 15 minutes extra journey time really worth dumping a great pub for? Gavros?

Black lion still beats any pub in Stratford for me.

What's the walk like from the Lion to Abbey Road DLR, Gavvy?

Bit of a trot ain't it?

Re: How did you find your new Pub?
On a fast zip you can do it in under ten minutes. One stop stratford high street and dive straight into the builders if you want to make a crawl of it.

Or Plaistow to West Ham on the tube then jump on the DLR

Re: How did you find your new Pub?
Bow Bells staff had T-shirts with crossed hammers on. Will have to change that if it becomes the designated away pub and suggests they are planning on remaining a home boozer.
More lively than last season you might expect and jukebox takes priority over the TV footy these days.
Decent enough atmosphere and the jukebox choices were a trip down memory Lane...
